Expa Travel Norway is a relatively small player within the travel and tourism industry. But even small companies have to take responsibility when it comes to human rights, climate, nature and the environment. Together, lots of small measures can make a difference.
We believe that running a healthy and profitable business goes hand in hand with caring for each other and effectively managing resources. Taking our share of social responsibility is one of the core values that shapes our business. That’s why our holidays are designed for you to have memorable experiences that also have a positive impact on nature and society.
From the outset in 2004, we have been clear about what we stand forand what is important to us. Our vision has grown stronger and clearer every year. There is no doubt that our strongest driving force is the chance to make a positive difference in the lives of the people who come on our tours and those we meet along the way.
When we plan our holidays, we do everything we can to ensure that our impact on the environment, on people, partners and guests, as well as our economic impact, is positive.
Our vision is simple and clear: ‘Create happiness and build self-esteem.’
We have defined a few simple guiding principles that are fundamental to our sustainability policy:
Thinking about sustainability is different in the Nordics than it is in the rest of the world. The Nordic approach is all about living in harmony with nature. We make a wide range of assessments for each and every trip.
We know that when people travel, they are more open to being inspired. Through the choices we make on your behalf (from sustainable transport to healthy local meals, and accommodation in very special places) we want to make sure that you can enjoy all of this and know that it also benefits the places we visit.
We are in continuous dialogue with our partners to follow up on the most important initiatives they take towards sustainability. In addition, we make it clear that employees must have the freedom to manage themselves, that the minimum wage requirements are met, that working hours are regulated and a good environment is provided.
Most of our partners are small business/family business owners, and are an important to the development and prosperity of their local community.
To ensure that the places we travel to will be there for future generations to enjoy, we as tour operators, as well as those we work with, local authorities and our customers must do everything we can to focus on the positive aspects of tourism and reduce the negative ones.
When you book a holiday with Expa Travel, you help to regenerate opportunities in the local community so that they can build a positive future. We only want to work with those who see the importance of preserving the past for future generations.
Many of the places we stay in have a cultural heritage that goes back generations. The food we eat is locally produced and made with love and care.
Your trip with Expa Travel is always tested by one of our team.
Quality for us, is in knowing that our partners are serious and that they themselves take their own social responsibility. Therefore, we want to offer you the best hosts, the most authentic places and experiences, local food and drink, and a high standard of facilities and services.
Your safety and well-being are of paramount importance to us. We expect our partners to follow strict guidelines for hygiene, cleaning and maintenance of equipment, food, drink and other facilities.
We are in continuous dialogue with all our partners to ensure that there are no instances of corruption, money laundering or child labour, and that our zero-tolerance policy is clear when it comes to harassment, bullying and discrimination.
We only work with approved instructors when we require specialist expertise.
We offer all our customers transparent terms and conditions, and standard rules for payment and cancellation (we are a member of the Norwegian Travel Guarantee Fund).
We want your holiday with us to leave lasting memories. We want it to be fun, challenging and inspirational, and we want your trip to be sustainable.
The entire holiday is set up so that you, whether you want to or not, contribute to a positive ripple effect in local communities by buying services and experiences and, not least, eating locally produced food.
We often get about locally by our own means, (cycling, walking, skiing…etc.), which again minimises emissions. Although this makes a positive impact on the local environment, there is still an environmental cost in terms of CO2 emissions.
We therefore want to compensate for our emissions.
In 2021, we have started the process of creating a scheme whereby everyone who books a trip with Expa Travel supports CO2 reducing projects certified by the UN. You can be sure that your contribution will only be used to directly finance projects that have been approved and verified.
To make sure that you do, we want to add this as a one-time fee. We hope you agree with our decision and are just as committed as we are to giving future generations the chance to enjoy all the wonderful things the world has to offer.
The price of every trip must include a CO2 contribution of 100NOK per person, which corresponds to one ton of CO2. This is a work in process, and we are currently seeking new businesses who focus on clean energy with a measurable long-term impact.
As we have said, we believe that profitability and sustainability can go hand in hand.
