In August, we invite all our Cycling4Gaza friends to join us on a cycling tour that’s on many people’s ‘bucket list’. Norway’s dramatic and untamed nature provides the perfect backdrop for adventure and unforgettable moments. Its stunning beauty and grandeur are sure to leave you breathless.
We’ll ride through some of Norway’s most iconic landmarks and breathtaking mountain passes, including Dalsnibba, Trollstigen, and Sognefjellet (1434 meters above sea level). The journey winds down the dramatic curves to the famous Geiranger Fjord (a UNESCO site) before climbing the legendary road to Dalsnibba. On the final day, we’ll finish on the stunning Milky Way route at Valdresflya.
A road bike is perfectly suitable for the entire journey, even though some stretches include gravel roads. If possible, we recommend using 30-32 mm tires for optimal comfort and performance!
6 full days of cycling through truly spectacular Norwegian nature!
A bus or support vehicle will accompany us throughout the entire trip. This provides flexibility, allowing you to shorten your cycling distances if needed. However, we encourage everyone to complete each stage together as a group whenever possible.
The trip is limited to a maximum of 20 participants. During the ride, may split into smaller groups based on fitness levels and traffic conditions to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
Daily Stages:
The daily stages range from approximately 60 to 100 km, with hilly terrain and some longer climbs, including Trollstigen, Dalsnibba, Sognefjellet, and “Tusenmeter’n.” While the focus is on exploring Norway’s stunning and dramatic landscapes, the long days on the bike (6-8 hours per day) require some preparation beforehand.
Group Riding:
We will bike as a group, guided by experienced Expa Travel bike guides who will ensure your safety and a memorable adventure throughout the journey.
Support & Luggage Transport:
A luggage transport trailer will accompany us during the entire trip, carrying your belongings and extra clothes. If your energy runs out, there’s always the option to hitch a ride.
Accommodation & Meals:
We stay in a mix of beautiful hotels, and traditional Norwegian “huts.” Every evening, you’ll enjoy delicious dinners featuring fresh, locally sourced Norwegian ingredients. All meals are included, but drinks are at your own expense.
Bikes:
You can bring your own bike or rent one from us, delivered to the starting point. We highly recommend a road bike with 30-32 mm tires or a gravel bike. E-bikes are, of course, welcome as well. More info about rental bikes will come soon.
Meeting Point:
The trip begins in Oslo on Saturday, August 2nd. From Oslo, the group will toghether take a train the day after to the starting point in Dombås (a journey of about four hours).
You’ll stay in a mix of beautiful hotels and traditional Norwegian huts, offering a blend of luxury and more basic accommodations.
All hotels provide a good standard. On the day six the accommodations are somewhat a little less luxuary as we stay in classic Norwegian mountain lodges. These lodges are charming and authentic but come with a more basic standard, they all have privat bathrooms and showers though. The huts have 2 or 3 bedrooms with one bathroom/shower.
After returning to Oslo late night the 8th of August we will happily make the reservation for you in a hotel if needed.
All meals are included in the price as outlined in the program.
(Dinner is not included on the arrival day in Oslo.)
Drinks are not included.
The daily program is preliminary, and Expa Travel reserves the right to make changes along the way.

The day starts with an early breakfast before the train departs Oslo at 8:00 AM. The scenic train journey to Dombås takes approximately four hours. Upon arrival, we’ll enjoy a light lunch before conducting the final bike check and beginning our ride toward Åndalsnes.
The route takes us through the breathtaking Romsdalen valley, surrounded by majestic mountains. The first half of the ride features flat terrain, while the second half is mostly downhill. Be prepared for some traffic along the way.
After arriving in Åndalsnes, we’ll check in at the hotel, where you can enjoy a refreshing shower and some time to explore the village at your own pace. The day concludes with a well-deserved dinner served in the hotel restaurant.
Cycling stage: Approx. 100 km with an elevation gain of 400 meters.
This is the day we tackle some serious elevation as we climb the legendary Trollstigen! After a few kilometres in the saddle, the ascent to the top begins. The reward? Stunning views (weather permitting) and an incredible sense of achievement when you reach the summit.
From the top of Trollstigen, it’s a thrilling descent to Valldal. Along the way, we’ll stop at the spectacular waterfalls in the Gudbrandsjuvet ravine.
After a well-deserved lunch, we’ll take a short ferry ride across Storfjorden to Eidsdal. From there, we cycle up to the famous Ørnesvingene viewpoint, offering a breathtaking panorama of Geiranger and the Geirangerfjord – a mandatory photo stop!
The final stretch is a downhill ride to Geiranger, where we’ll check in at Hotel Utsikten. The day ends with a delicious dinner served in the hotel restaurant.
Cycling Stage: Approx. 90 km with an elevation gain of 1,600 meters.
Today is a long but exciting ride through scenery that feels straight out of a fairy tale. The day starts early with a hearty breakfast buffet at the hotel. After breakfast, we’ll pack the support vehicle and begin the challenging climb – around 20 kilometres uphill, gaining approximately 1,500 metres in elevation – to the spectacular viewpoint at Dalsnibba.
From the top, the ride is primarily downhill, taking us through breathtaking landscapes all the way to Lom and onward to our overnight destination, Elveseter. The incredible surroundings make every kilometre worth the effort!
If you prefer not to tackle the full climb to Dalsnibba, you have the option to ride in the support vehicle and join the group further along.
After arriving at the hotel, you’ll have time for a refreshing shower before enjoying a well-deserved dinner made with local ingredients.
Cycling Stage: Approx. 120 km with 1,700 metres of elevation.
After yesterday’s long and challenging route, we’ll start the day with a hearty mountain breakfast. There’s no rush this morning, as today’s route is shorter at approximately 45 km. Around 10:00 AM, we’ll set off toward Sognefjellet, Norway’s highest mountain pass.
The climb to the highest point is long but rewarding, with breathtaking scenery all around. Once we reach the summit, we’ll take a well-deserved coffee break before enjoying a spectacular descent toward Turtagrø. This truly magical mountain area is bound to leave an impression!
Upon arrival at the renowned mountain lodge Turtagrø, we’ll have lunch before checking in. Turtagrø is the starting point for many exciting, famous, and challenging hiking routes. If you’re up for it, this is the perfect opportunity to go for a short hike before dinner.
Cycling Stage: Approx. 42 km with 1,000 meters of elevation gain.
Today, we cycle along the iconic mountain road known as Tindevegen, which winds through the stunning Jotunheimen landscape. Expect plenty of breathtaking viewpoints along the way!
The first 10 km feature a gentle uphill climb, followed by a thrilling 25 km descent toward Øvre Årdal. The road twists and turns as it leads us down to the fjord and the charming town of Øvre Årdal, where we’ll take a well-deserved lunch break before continuing our adventure.
From Øvre Årdal, we tackle the old mountain road, which ascends with numerous hairpin turns and gravel stretches. This part of the journey offers exceptional panoramic views of Hurrungane, Utladalen, and Bøttejuvet, showcasing Norway’s unparalleled natural beauty. The gravel road makes for a challenging ride, and those on road bikes may need to walk certain sections. However, we aim to cycle as much of the 30 km as possible, knowing every meter is worth the effort.
At Tyinkrysset, we turn toward Tyinholmen Mountain Lodge, nestled in the heart of Jotunheimen National Park. Here, we’ll check in and enjoy a delicious dinner made with local ingredients, sharing stories of the day’s adventure around the table.
Cycling Stage: Approx. 72 km with 2,100 meters of elevation gain.
The day begins with a hearty and relaxed breakfast before we load the bikes onto the MS Bitihorn boat and set off across Bygdin Lake. During the two-hour boat trip, we’ll enjoy the packed lunches we prepared at breakfast while admiring the breathtaking Norwegian mountain scenery.
Upon arrival at Bygdin Mountain Hotel, the cycling stage begins. Surrounded by stunning mountains and crystal-clear lakes, we’ll follow the renowned Milky Way gravel road across parts of Valdresflya, passing through beautiful landscapes as we make our way toward Skåbu and then on to Vinstra.
In Vinstra, the adventure concludes with a well-deserved pizza and a chance to freshen up before boarding the train back to Oslo. The train ride will likely be filled with reflections on the week’s unforgettable experiences.
We expect to arrive in Oslo at approximately 10:00 PM.
Cycling Stage: Approx. 60 km
